World Knowledge (WINGS Initiative)
Studying and connecting with the world outside our school walls brings limitless possibilities Imagine our children studying World Geography using Google Earth! Doing A World History project on Rome, collaborating with a school in Italy and sharing the classroom presentations through the web. Think of saying the rosary with children in France, Mexico, Italy or Ireland!
By thinking globally and acting locally, our students will be able to see the impact they can have on their community and the world at large. Service learning is a huge part of making connections and seeing the big picture. Collaborating on projects that better small and larger communities are opportunities for personal and academic growth and fits with our Christian Mission.
Foreign Language Learning:
Currently, St. Joseph's School offers weekly Spanish instruction through our Shared Time program. Beginning Fall 2011, we will implement the Rosetta Stone Classroom. We are excited about this addition to our curriculum, as it will allow students a more intensive, intentional foreign language learning experience. Families are able to select from a variety of languages their student will study. Licenses are good for 12 months, so students are able to continue their language learning year-round with the program’s web interface.
