                                                              Classrooms for Today's Students

At St. Joseph, we like to say that small classrooms bring big possibilities:  Big thinking, bigger learning and biggest dividends!

By creating classrooms for the newest generation of learners, the students at St. Joseph will be highly competitive and successful in an ever-changing world.  Our students have a myriad of resources at their fingertips: Dedicated teaching staff, engaging and enriching technology, and families who are involved and invested in their education.

                                                              Picture
An important part of building classrooms for that new generation is utilizing components of a  "Student  Centered" model.  Student-centered classrooms put students first, and is a shift from teacher-centered lecturing only.

Student-centered learning is focused on the student's needs, abilities, interests, and learning styles with the teacher as a facilitator of learning. This classroom teaching method involves student as full partners in the learning experience.

Teacher-centered learning has the teacher at its center in an active role and students in a passive, receptive role. Student-centered learning allows students to be highly engaged, because they are responsible participants in their own learning. A student-centered classroom isn’t a place where the students decide what they want to learn and what they want to do. It’s a place where we consider the needs of the students, as a group and as individuals, and encourage them to participate in the learning process all the time.

The WINGS Initiative involves a balance of both styles, Student and Teacher centered, and will give students the best possible foundation for academic, social and spiritual success. All types of learners are able to thrive in the WINGS classroom:  Struggling Learners, Independent Learners and Higher Level Learners. Help your child try on their personal set of WINGS today: By reviewing our information here or by scheduling a visit!
